Shi Wen Reservoir Feasibility Plan - Survey of Magalakan’s Perimeters and its Archaeological Conten
The Shi Wen Reservoir was constructed as a replacement for Pingtung area’s
groundwater source. The goal of the project was to slow land subsidence in
the region and improve quality of water for local residents. The Magalakan
site is located in the Lu Mang River area by the east bank along the upstream
of Shi Wen River, an area within the flood zone of the planned reservoir. The
team relied on near-surface survey techniques, drilling, and excavation pits
to assess the content and perimeter of the historic site. Unearthed artifacts
were categorized and analyzed in order to determine the perimeter of the
Magalakan site. Assessment of reservoir construction’s impact on the area
was also evaluated, and measures were proposed to minimize such damage.
