South San Bao Zhu Historic Site Rescue Excavation
The historic site, South San Bao Zhu, was discovered south of the original
location of San Bao Zhu, which is now area 34 of Tainan Science Park, the
construction site of phase five of TSMC’s Fab 14. A survey group discovered
the prehistoric artifacts of the site during the drilling phase when installing
foundation piles. The findings were published, and rescue excavation
commenced shortly thereafter. Judging from the style of the unearthed
items, the artifacts were determined to date back to the Niuchouzi Culture of
about 4,000 years ago. The findings were the only missing link to completing
a holistic overview of the area’s history.
